Life on Purpose – LeadingAge Maryland Conference Kick Off

Ellicott City will serve as the location for the gathering of hundreds of leaders and innovators within senior living when the LeadingAge Maryland Annual Conference begins tomorrow!

This year’s theme is Life on Purpose and if the schedule is any indication, it will be an exciting few days when not-for-profit providers and organizations who work with them will gather to explore new ways to support the senior population within Maryland.

Life on Purpose

The conference program describes Life on Purpose as a theme that “points to intentional priorities, strong values lived out daily, calculated risks, wise decisions, and new ways of thinking and being.”

That’s what I value most when we attend LeadingAge conferences. While we’re all individually striving to ensure our life care communities improve census, launch an expansion or effectively grow a team to serve our residents, this is a time when the industry comes together and shares experiences and learnings. Everyone benefits.

LeadingAge Maryland: Sessions to Watch

It’s difficult to pick specific education sessions to attend, as they all look interesting. Topics range from how to position your community against for-profit providers to innovation and culture. As someone who partners with senior living communities, I like to attend sessions that focus on what matters most and/or challenges communities are facing. It helps ensure that we have a better understanding of elements at play beyond the need to capture leads.

This year’s opening sessions look to be especially insightful, with presentations by John Cochrane from HumanGood, an owner and operator of senior living communities, and Dr. Tiffany Manuel of Enterprise Community Partners. Each session is described as a discussion about how to position the not-for-profit difference and adapt for the future.

As more and more seniors begin considering moving to a continuing care retirement community it’s imperative that we, as the people who look to support them, are constantly reexamining our approach to ensure that we’re fostering an environment that’s not only comfortable, but also presents opportunities to continue to grow and explore. It’s through conferences like LeadingAge Maryland that we can tap into new ideas to accomplish this goal.
